The role of exercise and falls prevention and management within residential aged care:
Falls are common in aged care and can lead to serious injuries, loss of independence, and reduced quality of life. Regular exercise has been shown to be the most effective way to prevent falls (Tricco et al., JAMA 2017). At Concentric, we provide structured and individualised exercise programs designed to help residents build strength, improve balance, and stay independent for longer.
Why Exercise Works?
The World Health Organization (2020) recommends that older adults engage in balance and strength exercises at least three times a week to reduce the risk of falls. Research has shown that:
โ Aged care residents who participate in regular exercise experience fewer falls compared to those who do not exercise (Sunbeam Trial, Hewitt et al., 2018).
โ Strength and balance training for at least 80 minutes per week is essential for preventing falls and maintaining mobility (Dyer et al., 2023).
