A Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plan is a structured, evidence-based approach to understanding and addressing challenging behaviours in individuals, particularly those with disabilities, mental health conditions, or developmental disorders.ย
PBS plans aim at improving the quality of a person’s life and the people around them. This is done by identifying the functions of challenging behaviours, reaching safe methods of response to challenging behaviours, improving communication and social skills and recommending environmental changes that enhance their lives. The process of plan development involves collaboration with the individual, their family, caregivers, and other support networks to ensure the plan is comprehensive and practical.
A PBS plan is typically developed by professionals trained in positive behaviour support, such as:
- Psychologists
- Behaviour specialists
- Allied health professionals (occupational therapists, speech pathologists)

At Concentric, our Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners work with children and adults. They will begin with assessments and goal setting in consultation with the client, the family and other people in the support network. They explore the โwhyโ behind challenging behaviours. What drives them? What unmet needs hide beneath the surface? Then, they design strategiesโtailored to each client โto turn those challenges into opportunities, and create the PBS Plan.
They then meet together with the client to implement the PBS plan, which can be adjusted along the way to suit each unique situation.ย
Concentric employs Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners who are vital members of our allied health team. We believe that all therapists involved should work together to ensure every client is supported with an efficient and effective therapy program to help reach their potential. Concentric supports NDIS and private clients, delivering our services from our purpose built clinics, at home, virtually or in the community.ย ย
