Overview
Virtual Ergonomics allows us to understand the relationships between humans and the products they manufacture, install, operate, and maintain. The ability to analyse human tasks early on in the product lifecycle offers many advantages:
- ensures conformance to OH&S standards,
- accelerates time to market,
- improves employee satisfaction,
- Optimises workplace and workcell design,
- Increases productivity, and many more.
The workshop on Virtual Ergonomics using DELMIA Human will include the following topics:
Loading workplace CAD data
Manikin generation
- Standard manikins based on nationality specific anthropometric databases
- Customising manikins to reflect workforce
Positioning manikins in working postures
- Posture catalogues
- Inverse kinematics
- Standard poses
- Automatic reach and grasp functions
- Manikin vision (see through manikin's eyes)
Posture Analysis
- Angular limitation and preferred joint angle libraries
- Compute local & global postural assessment score and chart
- Automatic posture optimisation (comfort angles)
Tool Integration
- Link tools to manikins (automatic grasp, attach constraints)
- Dynamic sectioning to validate tool positioning
Human Task Simulation
- Automatic activity creation (walk, pick & place, move to posture, climb ladders & stairs, track product assembly trajectories)
- Simulate worker activities

Virtual Ergonomics
Dassault Systemes / Safework
Julie has been involved in the field of ergonomics since 1994. Her Master's degree in Kinanthropology (ergonomics/biomechanics) has allowed her to specialise in applied research in ergonomics. The research in which she participated, as well as her working experience, has given her exposure to many different problems and solutions associated with work places. Her knowledge in ergonomics and biomechanics led her to the Dassault System Virtual Ergonomics Solution Team in 1999 where she worked as an aerospace account manager for 8 years. Julie is now managing the WW Industry Solutions & Consulting team for Virtual Ergonomics and has had the privilege of working with the following companies: Lockhead Martin, Boeing, Bombardier, Pratt & Whittney, Cessna, Toyota, Chrysler GM, Airbus and Northrop Grumman.
